I learned the "times tables" or "multiplication tables" by reciting (chanting) them like this (it's actually like singing a song):
- 1 times 1 is 1, 1 times 2 is 2,..., 1 times 12 is 12;
- 2 times 1 is 2, 2 times 2 is 4,..., 2 times 12 is 24;
- ...
- 12 times 1 is 12, 12 times 2 is 24,..., 12 times 12 is 144;
I don't feel the polysyllabic (multiple-syllable) numbers are complex, because that's how English works. Also, there is only one number that is under 10 and has two syllables, which is "seven".
I do find it faster to do "times tables" in Chinese. Maybe that's why many Chinese are good at math.

我不觉得这些多音节的数字很复杂,因为英语就是这样的。并且在英语里,10以下的数字中只有一个数字不是一个音节组成的:7,它有两个音节。
我感觉用中文来掌握乘法表会更快一些,也许这就是很多中国人数学好的原因吧~
