BRITAIN is sending FIGHTER JETs to China by 2020, top diplomat reveals
高级外交官透漏英国将在2020年针对中国部署战斗机 British fighter jets will be deployed to the South China Sea – one of the world’s most volatile military hotspots – by 2020, Britain’s ambassador to the United States has claimed.
驻美英国大使声称英国战斗机将于2020年部署在南中国海 — 世界上最动荡的军事热点地区之一。
Envoy Kim Darroch told a Washington think tank that Typhoon aircraft currently stationed in Japan will fly across disputed parts of the South China Sea, in a bid to ensure territorial spats between neighbouring countries do not affect freedom of navigation.
Mr Darroch - formerly David Cameron’s National Security advisor - said that Britain will sail aircraft carriers in the Pacific ocean once they are operational in 2020.
He added that while the majority of the UK’s defence capacity will be directed toward the Middle East for the foreseeable future, Britain will eventually have a military presence in the Pacific.

He said: “Certainly, as we bring our two new aircraft carriers onstream in 2020, and as we renew and update our defence forces, they will be seen in the Pacific.
And we absolutely share the objective of this US administration, and the next one, to protect freedom of navigation and to keep sea routes and air routes open.”

He said Britain “will try to play” its part in the Pacific, despite preoccupations in the Middle East.

The announcement follows Britain’s contentious decision in October to deploy four fighter jets to Japan to perform exercises with the Japanese airforce intended to deter China from pursuing territories in East Asia, including the South and East China Seas.
But Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang said at the time there was no dispute over freedom of navigation and overflight in the South China Sea.

He said: “We hope the relevant party can earnestly respect regional countries’ efforts to safeguard peace and stability in the South China Sea.”

And a scathing editorial published by state-sponsored Chinese news agency Xinhua blasted British forces for “playing a meddling role” in the contention.

It said: "Such remarks create the impression that London may soon deviate from a largely aloof attitude over the South China Sea issue and start playing a meddling role there like the United States and Japan.”

"Should a British warplane embark on a so-called ‘freedom of navigation’ mission in the South China Sea, it would only serve to further complicate the issue and weigh on thriving China-Britain ties."
Japan’s ambassador to the US, Kenichiro Sasae, welcomed greater British involvement in Asian security after a meeting regarding naval cooperation at the Pentagon in October.

mark Wow China must be quaking in her Boots at the thought of a British deployment to south china seas in 2020. We haven't got the surface fleet to protect the carriers so what use will they be in a combat zone when they are such a easy target for Chinese submarines not forgetting we only have two on order and this government is scrapping more then half of the current fleet with no new ships coming on line anytime soon.

Darroch is a man with (apparently) a degree in Zoology, who has been a "diplomat" since leaving University, and who has been Cameron's principal advisor on European affairs ; and British Permanent Representative to the European Union. And Cameron thought these experiences obviously qualified Darroch to be National Security Advisor.....? Well, it takes all sorts... So we have (all of) 4 jets in Japan ready to interfere in a dispute that has nothing to do with the UK, and we're ready to interfere when the Chinese Foreign Ministry points out that there is no dispute over freedom of navigation and overflight in the South China Sea. OK, "Kim", let's threaten to get involved in a Sino-Japanese issue, and let's also threaten the Chinese with our non existent aircraft carriers over a non existent issue of international navigation .... Brilliant. Anyone looking to see how stupid Ambassador Darroch really is needs to refresh their memories of the Yangtse incident and (further back) the Opium Wars. We used to think it was "British" to force the Chinese to let us sell opium to them : by means of war. Hello Ambassador : I think that the Chinese now have rather larger and more useful forces than the Quing Dynasty. Hopefully the Chinese are having a good laugh at "Ambassador" Darroch rather than getting angry.....
