Derivatives exchanges urged to list more ESG products by the UN
The introduction of data to support the listing of new tradeable products based on Environmental,Social,and Corporate Governance (ESG) values is among a number of actions that derivatives exchanges can take to promote the transition to sustainable economy,a report released on last Wednesday by the United Nations’Sustainable Stock Exchanges (SSE) said.The report marks the intergovernmental organisation’s first effort to extend sustainability guidance beyond stock exchanges and equities to derivatives markets.The guidance,which includes a sustainability action plan,has been drawn up by an international advisory group of 71 representatives from derivatives and stock exchanges and jointly written in partnership with the WFE.The action plan includes recommendations that exchanges list tradeable ESG contracts to meet emerging demand for sustainability-aligned derivatives across all asset classes,and introduce new data products as the basis for these contracts.
